Incomplete List of Resources for Female Entrepreneurs in Los Angeles

Uncategorized Mar 10, 2016

Being a female entrepreneur isn’t easy. I started SoGal because I felt the magic happen after I exposed myself to the entrepreneurial world. My mindset completely changed and my life’s path immediately looked very different. I thought, how powerful it would be if more young women could get the same exposure, have a peer-to-peer community, and know entrepreneurship is an option. I know I did not see it as an option one year ago. One empowered woman can empower a group of women around her, and the impact will be exponential. That’s exactly what happened in my journey of building SoGal. I know for a fact that I have created positive changes in people’s lives, and it’s been the most rewarding thing on the planet.

From November 2014, SoGal has grown from a new student organization at University of Southern California, to a global community of 2,000+ diverse entrepreneurs and investors in 26 countries around the world. I am absolutely amazed by what has...

A 24 y/o Female Venture Capitalist’s Advice To Female Entrepreneurs

Uncategorized Mar 10, 2016

What is the most important advice for a female entrepreneur?

1. Know who you are and understand your self-worth.

Many women have identity issues, self-image issues and confidence issues. Understand where you come from and be proud of it, because that’s what makes you who you are today. Cliché, right? 2. Do not wait to start your business.

The only way to do it is to do it.

As I started my journey to become a venture capitalist, I was often regurgitated the same statistics about women in venture capital and the amount of venture capital that goes towards teams with women founders. These statistics often emphasize the dire state the industry is in and the need for additional opportunities for women.

For example: The number of women partners in venture capital dropped from 10% to 6% since 1999.

With any statistic, context is important. In the case of the statistic above, a portion of the drop of women in venture...

Storytelling with LinkedIn: Understand Your Audience and Their Villains

During the ReelSummit conference I had a chance to interview Alex Lacayo, Senior Manager of Media Productions at LinkedIn, in a live version of the Get Reel with Renee show. During the interview we discussed storytelling in a multi-screen world, but also focused on empowering audiences with the information they need in the way that they want to consume it.

With attention spans depleting and the volume of content rising, it has become increasingly critical to understand your audience and their challenges. LinkedIn understands this and approaches their content at a personal level for their customers. The delivery of their content empowers their customers with the right information and hands them the proverbial superhero cape to change the world.

To learn more about how LinkedIn creates engaging content that is worth watching, view the full Get Reel with Renee interview below:
